The Ashtabula County Board of Developmental Disabilities preschool program supports enrolled children with developmental disabilities to meet the needs of each child and to provide training and supports for both the child and their family along with integrating typically developing children into the classroom setting to enhance the learning experience in collaboration with their local school district.
The preschool program serves children with developmental disabilities through the Individual Education Plan (IEP) that is written by the child’s parents or guardian. These children, ages 3 through 5, use a play-based curriculum that helps to develop skills in pre-academics, socialization, play, communication and coordination. All classes mix typical children together with those who are experiencing developmental disabilities. Students are exposed to pre-kindergarten skills, including introduction to numbers, letters, colors and shapes.
