Ashtabula County Board of Developmental Disabilities

Male, living in Ashtabula, is looking for HPC/HPC transportation. Must be flexible to aid with Special Olympics schedule. Currently, it is Monday and Wednesday, 2p-6p and Friday 2p-8p. Usually around September/October, he will need staff Saturday or Sunday (varied times) for swim meets and bowling. He can be alone up to 3 hours and is working on more independence in the community.  He has a phone and he can call/text Mom if he needs to. He likes to be active. Staff will help him plan/attend activities in the community. Staff will encourage him to complete his daily chores in the home and help him when he asks. He will need to be taken to the store to get groceries, will need help getting the items and help to stay within his budget. If he pays cash, he will need some help to finalize the transaction, ensure that he has enough money and make sure he receives the correct change. Staff will encourage him to keep receipts. Staff will need to transport to all activities scheduled and to appointments. He will sometimes freeze when communicating his needs and wants to someone. He needs time to respond and someone to help advocate for his rights. He will need encouragement to take smaller bites to avoid choking.
